Bags Under Your Eyes Making You Look Unattractive? Best Tips for Removing Under Eye Bags

You can have a clear and flawless complexion, shiny and beautiful hair, and a perfect figure, but if you have drooping layers of skin below your eyes, otherwise known as eye bags, then you shouldn't be surprised if people think you are ill, sleep deprived, tired and haggard, or perhaps even suffering from an alcohol or drug problem.

The fact is, bags under the eyes do detract from your positive physical qualities. So, what can you do about them?

First, it would be helpful to learn about what can cause eye bags to appear, and what could make them worse.

These include:

  • Having a diet that lacks enough of the nutrients the body needs for healthy skin
  • Aging
  • Not getting enough hours of sleep regularly
  • Heredity
  • An underlying medical condition
  • Allergies
  • Stress

A combination of some of these and other factors can cause fluid or fatty deposits to build up in the area of skin underneath the eyes, and if the body's lymphatic system is not functioning as well as it should, then those deposits accumulate in the area.

This then results in puffy eyes or swollen eyes. Worse, the bags can start to droop, giving the unfortunate sufferer of the problem a more unattractive appearance.

Thankfully, having bags below your eyes is a condition you can treat, and there are several ways you can go about it.

Tips for Treating Eye Bags

Sometimes the problem isn't too severe. When the bags are just small, barely noticeable pouches that only become more obvious at certain angles or under certain lighting conditions, you can use an under-eye concealer to mask it in a hurry.

You may also want to consider some home remedies, which many people swear do a good job of reducing the swelling of the skin below the eyes. One simple trick is to fill your sink or a basin with cold water and then to immerse your face in it for a few minutes -- coming up once every so often to breathe, of course.

Another trick is to put slices of a raw potato below each eye for approximately 15 minutes. This can also be done with cucumber slices. You can also try applying pre-steeped teabags that are still warm -- not hot -- for about the same amount of time.

For a more permanent fix, you might want to consider looking at eye creams and gels available in beauty and health stores both online and offline. Many of these are specifically aimed at getting rid of puffy eye bags and other similar under-eye problems.

Blepharoplasty or eye bag removal surgery is another option, though probably one of the most radical ones out there. In this procedure, excess muscle, skin and fat are taken out from the upper and lower eyelids. It's an effective way to eliminate baggy eyes, but like all surgical procedures, there is always a risk of complications.

It would be best for you to consult your dermatologist or your health care provider to learn about the possible reasons for your eye bags, to rule out their appearance as a symptom of an underlying disease.

Your doctor's advice, along with high-quality anti-aging and skin care products as well as healthy lifestyle practices, will go a long way toward eliminating bags under your eyes and bringing back a refreshed and younger look to your face.
